About Us
"
Sharper Snippers" was born several years ago, out of someone else’s frustration. One of my
sisters-in-law is a hairdresser, working from a salon set up at home. She was having problems
finding a company who could look after her scissors. The last pair she had sent away had come
back ten days later and in a worse condition than they were before leaving her. The wasted
expenditure and the inconvenience of loosing essential tools for such a length of time had
become a source of irritation to her, as much as the poor quality of the service she had
experienced. I initially took away some old scissors she had laying around and started to
play with them. I have been in an engineering environment all my adult life and have handled
mechanical devices since I was a teenager. This grounding gave me a bit of a head start when
I began to investigate how and why scissors work or not. At first sight they can be described
as simple items. In actual fact, they are not. A tremendous amount of detail work goes into
the finished article, from the initial design stages right up to the final assembly. It would
be a bad mistake to underestimate the skills of their makers!
It has got to be said that my initial interest was triggered more by curiosity than anything
else. There was also a challenge to be met! Unbeknown to me, this was going to be the beginning
of a long journey. My initial attempts at servicing hairdressers’ scissors

were carried out using basic hand tools and produced results that were just about good enough to convince me
that going further into it was viable. I started to look at the machinery available to consistently
produce results of the highest professional standards. It took a while to discover that the best
technology available for the job was in the United States. I flew out there, having found a man
who had spent the last ten years perfecting the ultimate piece of equipment for the job and came
back to the UK with one of his machine. This is how "
Sharper Snippers" came into being!
The clippers servicing side was a very early development for the business.. More or less from
day one and whilst handing scissors over for attention, stylists and salon owners started to
enquire about the possibility of getting some servicing work done. WAHL is by far the most
popular brand of clippers used in British salons. The UK branch of this American company is
a massive concern and, after some training at their facility in Herne Bay, I was appointed as
one of their official servicing agents. I am one of the few on the south coast.
